iPad Stuck on Apple Logo? Safe Checks & Repair Options

If your iPad is stuck on the Apple logo, first check whether it is still updating or repeatedly trying to start. A logo screen alone cannot tell you which part, if any, needs replacing. Start with the checks that suit the screen you can see, and understand the data implications before agreeing to an erase. For help with an ongoing startup fault, Katya Phone provides tablet repair in Caroline Springs.

Before you choose Restore: it erases the iPad. If important files are not backed up, pause and explain that before any software or repair work begins.

Is it a stuck logo, an update or a restart loop?

These screens can look similar at a glance. Describe what changes on the display rather than assuming every Apple logo means the same problem.

If the iPad reaches its normal screen but does not respond to touch, our iPad touch screen guide covers that separate fault.

Check the history before changing anything

Write down whether this started during an update, after a drop or liquid exposure, or following another repair. Note any earlier storage warnings and the last time the iPad worked normally. Those details help direct an assessment; they do not prove the cause.

Take a photo of any computer error message and keep the exact number. Also note whether the logo stays steady or disappears, whether a cable is connected, and which checks you have already tried. Avoid repeatedly clicking different recovery options without keeping track.

If the iPad or battery appears damaged, the screen is lifting, or it becomes unusually hot, stop using it and seek assessment. Do not pry open the display or press a lifted screen back down. If you suspect liquid in the charging port, do not connect a charging cable.

If there is a progress bar, give the update time

An update, restore or transfer can show a bar that moves very slowly or appears stationary. It may also finish one stage and start another. Keep an over-the-air update connected to suitable power and let it continue rather than restarting simply because the display looks unchanged.

There is no single waiting period that diagnoses every iPad. If the process never finishes or the device stops responding, further troubleshooting or service may be needed. Tell the technician that a progress bar was present; that differs from a plain logo at every startup.

Try a force restart for a frozen startup

Use the branch that matches your iPad. A force restart is different from a factory erase.

  • Without a Home button: briefly press the volume button nearest the top button, then briefly press the other volume button. Hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
  • With a Home button: hold Home and the top button together until the Apple logo appears.

If the same fault returns, move to the next decision instead of repeating the sequence indefinitely. If a required button is broken, arrange service.

Use a computer to try Update before considering an erase

Use Finder on a recent Mac, or the Apple Devices app on a Windows PC. Older supported setups may use iTunes. Update the computer software first and connect the iPad with a suitable USB cable.

Enter recovery mode

With the iPad connected, repeat its button sequence above, but keep holding until the recovery screen appears, beyond the Apple logo. For a Home-button iPad, keep both Home and the top button held to that screen. Then follow the computer’s prompts.

If the software download takes longer than 15 minutes and the iPad leaves recovery mode, let the download finish before entering recovery mode again.

Understand Update and Restore

Update reinstalls the system software while aiming to retain your personal data. Choose it first when troubleshooting startup and you have not already tried it. Keep the iPad connected while the installation runs.

Restore erases the device and reinstalls iPadOS. It is a separate decision, not an interchangeable name for Update. A software attempt can fail, so data preservation is never something to assume from a button label.

If Update fails, stop and review your backup situation before moving on. Avoid a DFU restore or third-party tool merely because it promises a quick fix without data loss. Ask what the proposed process will change or erase.

What if the computer does not recognise the iPad?

Check that the cable supports data as well as charging. Try another suitable cable, another USB port or another computer. Confirm that the computer and its device-management software are up to date.

A normally running iPad may display a Trust prompt. An iPad that cannot finish starting may not let you reach that prompt or Settings, so instructions that require unlocking it may not be possible in its current state. If recognition or Update still fails, keep the error details and arrange an assessment.

If the main symptom is that it only shows the logo when plugged in, do not conclude that the battery is the cause. Our iPad not charging guide explains the separate charging checks.

Protect your files before the next step

If the iPad becomes usable, make a backup before further troubleshooting. For iCloud, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud and iCloud Backup. Choose Back Up Now, stay on Wi-Fi, and check that it completes. The date shown under that option helps confirm the latest completed backup.

If it stays stuck, look for an existing iCloud or computer backup rather than assuming a new one can be made. Keep any existing computer backup safe. Important files on the iPad should be part of the repair discussion even if you are unsure when it was last backed up.

Before agreeing to an erase, make sure you can access the Apple Account linked to the iPad. Activation Lock can require that account when the device is reactivated. Resetting the software does not bypass ownership protection.

When to arrange an iPad repair assessment

Get help when the startup fault continues after the appropriate checks, the computer repeatedly reports an error, the buttons prevent recovery mode, or there is a history of physical or liquid damage. If the data matters more than getting the iPad running immediately, say that when you first contact the repairer.

Katya Phone can assess iPad hardware and software faults. A useful starting brief includes the model, symptom, recent events and what happened during any Update attempt. Walk-ins are welcome; you can call 0451 041 090 ahead to discuss your model and repair options.

What affects the quote?

The model, confirmed fault, parts availability and any required software work affect the repair plan. A startup logo is not enough to quote a battery, screen or board repair accurately. Assessment should establish what is practical before you authorise the work.

Deeper faults can be inspected too. Katya Phone checks the device, repairs it where practical, and explains honestly before charging if the repair is not worthwhile. No Fix No Fee applies when the device cannot be repaired. Eligible data recovery requires the device to power on and its data to be accessible; a stuck-logo repair does not include a promise of recovery.

Repairs include a six-month warranty, excluding water damage and subsequent physical damage. Confirm the proposed work and applicable coverage for your iPad before proceeding.

iPad Stuck on Apple Logo – Frequently Asked Questions

It is not completing startup, but the logo alone does not identify a failed component. Note whether the problem began during an update, after damage or following another change, then use the checks that match the screen you see.

Give an update or restore time to finish, because the bar can look stationary while work continues. If it never completes or the iPad becomes unresponsive, follow the stalled-process guidance or seek help rather than repeatedly interrupting it.

A computer-assisted Update is a possible next step. If it fails or your important files are not backed up, pause before selecting Restore and explain the situation to a technician.

Tap the volume button closest to the top button, tap the other volume button, then hold the top button until the Apple logo appears. Release it for a normal force restart; entering recovery mode requires holding longer, as explained above.

No, a force restart is not a factory erase. Hold Home and the top button together until the Apple logo appears; do not confuse that action with choosing Restore on a computer.

You can check whether an update is still progressing and try the appropriate force restart. If it remains stuck, computer-assisted recovery or a repair assessment may be necessary; there is no guaranteed button-only fix.

Update reinstalls the system software while aiming to keep personal data. Restore erases the iPad, so check your backups and understand that consequence before agreeing to it.

Do not assume a new backup can be made when the iPad cannot start and allow access. Check for an existing iCloud or computer backup, and make a fresh backup if the device becomes usable again.

That behaviour alone is not enough to identify the faulty part. Describe the charging pattern when arranging assessment, and avoid replacing a battery based only on the startup screen.

Arrange an assessment and explain what happened before the startup fault began. Stop using a device with suspected physical or battery damage, and do not connect a charging cable if you suspect liquid in the port.

Get help with an iPad that will not finish starting

Check which screen you are seeing, try the appropriate safe steps, and make your backup situation clear before an erase is considered. If the logo keeps returning, an assessment can help establish the next practical option.
